Horseback riding for a 3-day weekend in Cucugnan

Visit the most beautiful citadels with Cheval Cathare

Cheval Cathare offers you a 3-day weekend ride of the Cathar castles in May, starting from Cucugnan.

Enjoy the most beautiful citadels: Quéribus, Peyrepertuse and Aguilar.

Day 1
(Possibility of arriving the day before)

Saturday morning welcome at 8:30am at the Cucugnan horse farm. Saddle up for the ride to Duilhac, to see one of the most impressive castles in the Cathar country, the one nicknamed the "citadel of vertigo", the "celestial Carcassonne" or the "ship of stones"...

Picnic at the foot of Peyrepertuse castle and walking tour.

Next, we reach the Col de Laprès and, along beautiful paths under the evergreen oaks, we reach the Verdouble valley.

We end this beautiful day with a few gallops on the forest tracks of the Bac de la Serre.

Day 2

Departure for the Château de Quéribus, perched on its rocky ridge. Visit the castle, with its immense panoramic views of the Mediterranean and the Pyrenees, still snow-capped in spring. We thread our way through the Grau de Padern gorges and, as we turn the bend in the path, a formidable view opens up over the plain of Tuchan, topped by the Château d'Aguilar (the eagle castle).

This wine-growing region is home to the great vintages of Fitou, Corbières and Rivesaltes.

Spend the night in the St Roch gîte, a beautifully renovated former sheepfold. From the terrace, we enjoy an extraordinary view.

Day 3

In the morning, we head for the Aguilar fortress overlooking the magnificent Tuchan-Paziols wine-growing plain, set between the limestone massifs of Mont Tauch and the Vingrau-Tautavel plateau. Yet another view of our beautiful Corbières. Visit to the château. Vine-lined paths then take us to Paziols, then Padern through its gorges, before finally catching sight of Cucugnan and its mill.

Return to Cucugnan around 5pm.
